"The only kind of universe I can begin to conceive is an inconceivable one"
Ilyas Kassam
Caelum is latin for sky. These pieces are meditations on astronomical phenomena as we understand them today. Whereas initially each movement is a kind of impressionistic response to a physical characteristic such as the stillness of space, the violence of a solar flare or dazzling light, inevitably the metaphorical surfaces as the ideas are subjected to development and transformation thereby suggesting a human response to the cosmos and our place within it. The music is virtuosic and written in a language that inhabits the border between extended tonality and atonality so it wont be to everyone's taste. It is structured into three movements, each of which is divided into two. The most user friendly pieces are Lux and Void, the last having been written as a kind of Berceuse that towards the end reprises music from the 1st mvt.
